CG Day 1 - Baloon cave - aboriginal art and an echidna

We checked in just after lunch and the owner suggested we do a couple of short walks. The first was to:

A short walk through eucalypts and palms and a steep climb up to a rock overhang.

Baloon cave is actually a small rock overhang and this was our first experience of Aboriginal art. It’s thought the yellow and red pigments may have come from the sandstone formation on which this is painted. There were band of these colours in the rock formation (LHS). This is stencilled art, you can see hands and in the left hand corner a boomerang. Apparently there are at least two types of boomerang, the that come back and those that don’t this is one that doesn’t and it would have been used to bring down prey or men when at war.

These are clay wasp nests – they don't bite but they are big beasties.

On the way back a rustle in the undergrowth. Was it a snake.....

This was another first an echidna, this one was very shy but we met a star later on.. Here’s Paul trying to get a shot.

This guy was shy and kept trying to burrow into the base of a tree and curl up.
