We left Puerto Ayora Galapagos Island heading for Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands at 08.00 am local time UTC (GMT) - 6 hours on Sunday the 18 Mach 2012.

Day 7 Distance to go, 2,161 miles.

Log reading now at noon 12661

Distance travelled noon to noon over the ground was 131 miles, through the water 151 miles.

Noon to Noon report on the 24th March 12

We have managed to sail a full 24 hours again, the wind has now picked up to 15 to 22 knots from the South East, which is giving us a great reaching sail. We are now sailing at our normal speed of 6 to 7 knots and in the direction we need to go. So heading South West to try to pick up the wind has worked.

The sea state is moderate, giving us a bit of a bumpy sail, but otherwise OK.

Wildlife report

We have seen a few flying fish and a few sea birds, and a little squid on the deck, but nothing else

Shipping report

None to report

Fishing report

Had the fishing line out yesterday and caught a Mahi mahi (Dorado), got it on board just above the back deck when it did a massive twitch and the hook came out of its mouth. It then escaped off the deck and back into the sea!!!

Fleet Positions

Karacool set off with us, and is at present about 92 miles behind us.

Camelot set off on Tuesday and is now 450 miles behind us.

Marita 3 set off on Tuesday and is now 440 miles behind us.

Cordelia an American boat we met on Saturday night before we left, has just joined the radio net. They also left on Sunday. There position is 20 miles ahead of us.

Next report on the 25th.
