Passage To The Galapagos Islands Day 4

We left the Las Perlas Islands heading for Galapagos at 10.00 am local time Panama on the 2 Mach 2012.

Day 4 Distance to go, 493 miles.

Log reading now 13202

Distance through the water was only 124 miles, and distance over the ground was 105 miles. We therefore have lost the benefit of the current over these last 24 hours.

Noon to Noon on the 5th March 12

Very little wind throughout the day and night again, so we have made yet again very slow progress towards Galapagos. However we have managed to get some sailing done over the last 24 hours

When we do motor we are still keeping the engine RPM down at the 2,200 level to conserve fuel as we still have a long way to go!!!

During the early evening at around 8.00 pm (20.00 hours), we had the most dramatic rain storm we have been in so far. The rain was torrential and the thunder and lightning dramatic and right above us. The noise from the thunder was ear shattering, and the rain was like standing under a very strong shower, warm but very wet. At least we have now managed to clean off the boat from all the muck and grime from Panama.

Not much wildlife so far other than sea birds. I have not caught any more fish, so it will be meat or rice again.

All the other boats in the group have now set off.

Marita 3 left about three hours before us, 2nd March, and they are now on the 5th March 47 miles behind us.

Karacool left on the 3rd March and they are now on the 5th March 125 miles behind us.

Camelot left 3rd March and they are now on the 5th March 143 miles behind us.

Next report on the 6th.
