Forgot to mention the climate last time. When we arrived in NZ
it was a lot colder than we expected. Quite a lot of sunny days, but with
quite a chill in the air. It has started getting warmer during the
days as summer approaches, but it's still cool in the mornings and evenings, and
it's always cool when the south wind blows. It comes straight up
from Antarctica and it's definitely fleece weather. When out we've swapped
a cold coke for hot chocolate and haven't had shorts on since arriving!
Apparently the warmest month is February, so it should continue to get warmer
for the next 2 months. There's been very little rain and they are
talking of a possible drought again (they had little rain last summer), so
having come half way round the world we could be back into 'hosepipe ban'
territory! The mornings here have been beautiful - not a cloud in
the sky with green rolling hills of pasture and woodland all
around and a fresh crispness to the air. The clouds then start to roll
in during the day and it looks like rain, but so far very little
has fallen. Hope that continues as we've moved out to a mooring in the bay
and don't want to get wet going ashore. very happy for it to rain overnight.
There are boats anchored in the bay, but the holding is not that good and quite
a few have dragged. There are lots of moorings and at a cost £3.50 a
night, most are occupied. We'll stay here until the work we're having done
is complete (modifications to the bimini frame and davits and possibly a another
