South Plaza Terrain and Land Iguanas

The island is only very small - you can walk round it in 40
minutes - and is very arid with cactus and clumps of vegetation. There are
sea cliffs on the south side where sea birds nest and feed. The island has
a resident colony of sea lions and the dominant male sea lion is so territorial
that they don't allow snorkeling along the coast. The island is home to land
iguanas as well as birds, the sea lions and loads of brightly coloured
crabs. The islands have marked trails that you have to follow and you have to
have an official guide with you at all times.

are not allowed on North Plaza.
  Cactus - opuntia, or prickly
pear
 We came across quite a few land iguanas. Some in
the open like this one and some well camouflaged in
the vegetation.
 They spend most of their time basking in the
sun and they ignore people, so they're not
difficult to
photograph!
  If they move, it's generally quite slowly, except
when the have found food. This one found a spent
prickly
pear flower and was scurrying off to
find a secluded place to eat it.
