Saturday, 4 May 2019, 15.30 and Jane’s watch. We are bowling along with the wind on the beam and although it is sunshine and clouds, it is already noticeably warmer than when we left New Zealand.

So Jane, our lunchtime cook is also now in charge of stowaways.

So successfully in fact, that the stowaway has taken up residence in her cabin.

We are very worried about this swallow, as it is clearly very young, very tired and not able to keep up with the other 2 that also visited us. We can’t help feeling this will end badly.

We are following the track recommended by MetBob to try and avoid the windless area in the high that is pushing us towards New Cal. We did have to motor or motor sail last night and up until this morning, the wind has been from behind with a big sea, so not easy conditions. The crew have lived up to expectations and the fact that we have failed to catch a fish so far maybe due to the Skipper’s wife whispering “go away” to any self respecting fish and not to Bill’s lack of trying.

The Ship’s Boy is doing her best to make sure we do not exceed our booze allowance when we get to New Caledonia and we are all contributing to making sure there is little in the fridge and freezer for customs to confiscate.
