This is a “must go to” place. Lovely walks, stunning scenery, lots of birds and, at times, challenging driving if you take the wild life roads.

Just one of the great views on the Otago Peninsula

Sandfly Bay, an easy drive down Sea Point “road”, where walking back up the dunes was like walking in deep snow.

Allans Beach Road, a beautiful drive round Hooper’s Inlet and Allans Beach provided us with resting fur seals, masquerading as logs on the beach. We went nearer than the advisory 10 meters to one, not having even noticed it was a seal to start with.

It’s very tiring being a fur seal

Then a more hair raising drive across the peninsula down Shepard Road to Papanui Inlet and back to civilisation via Weir Road. The only vehicles we met were minibuses doing wilderness tours and a few cars.

On the way to the Albatross Centre which was the highlight of the trip, a late afternoon and a guided tour to the lookout. Can’t send anymore photos in this blog, so will have to continue in the next one.
