AJAYA'S CRUISE
Phil & Nikki Hoskins
Mon 16 Mar 2009 14:03
All ok onboard - little wind, sea calm, surrounded by shoal of Amberjacks which seemed to be sheltering under the hulls - we caught one to see what it actually was.  It took a lot of restraint to quell Phil's 'hunter-gatherer' instincts to keep it for food, but as we already have another 2 meals of fresh tuna in the fridge it seemed the right thing to return it unharmed to the sea. Hopefully the fish will obligingly stay with us until we need actually one, but we get the feeling that nature doesn't quite work that way. Phil nevertheless spent some time with a hookless lure to see how the Amberjacks attacked it without actually hooking one - fascinating! With the sea so calm a window opened into the daily life (and death) struggles that go on mostly unseen in the ocean when the water is broken by waves, dolphins herding shoals of fish into baitballs, the birds pitching in to get their share of the action.  We spent time enjoying the spectacle around us until a breeze came up and the sea covered up many of its secrets from us once more.
