Lanzarote & Happy Christmas

AJAYA'S CRUISE

It feels very strange to have been here for three weeks now. For over ten years we had flown down at this time of year for a week of winter sun.  By rights we should have been on the plane back to the UK two weeks ago!  After our first extensive cruise in Ajaya to arrive somewhere so familiar with very good friends to greet us was quite emotional.  Our first goal achieved.
Settling down for a while after being constantly on the move is always difficult.  Ajaya needs to be finished, things need to be repaired or modified - the list seems to grow daily!  Trying to get back into a work routine is not easy in these lovely surroundings with miles of scenic walks to enjoy, spending time with our friends & chatting to other cruisers.
Our winter berth.
Yes that is a brand new Hallberg Rassy 54 behind us & there are over 15 catamarans here of which we are one of the smallest!  The furthest tall mast you can see is a 150' super yacht so we are in good company.  The marina held a reception for the crews of visiting yachts just after we arrived.  As coincidences go it turned out that the husband of the couple that joined us for a chat is the brother of the first owner of Ajaya - a very small world.  Yachts have been coming & going on the yearly migration to get to the Caribbean before Christmas.  Tourist coaches arrive daily to disgorge their passengers to go for submarine trips or sail on a large day catamaran or simply to enjoy the surroundings & the many bars & restaurants. This corner, however, is peaceful.
At the time of writing we still don't know whether to cross the Atlantic in January (sort of get it over & done with) or cruise the Canaries for a year.  We have another month to decide.  So unless anything note worthy occurs between now & then we wish everyone following this blog a very, very happy Christmas and a successful 2009.
Back soon.
