Dolphins spotted off the starboard side EMc 0300 24 22N 20.39W COG 252 degrees Wind 16 - 18 kts SOG ave. 6.5kts, Two boats one started out ahead, two to three miles off Port beam. Other started 2.5 miles starboard beam and now 5miles starboard quarter, feel we may make ground on him. At Watch end the new boat was 5.1 miles off starboard beam. RT 04.00 Wind ENE 10-15 kts resulted in SOG of 5-7kts. Vessel Europa Bridge bound for Rottedam with hazardous cargo picked up on AIS and radar coming up from Starboard quarter, passing in front of us to Port. MS 06.00 25.26N 18.25W Clock and Batteries checked. Latter showing 22.2v. FN 08.30 Generator started. Sat on the Dolphin seat and watched a dozen or so dolphins play around and race our bow wave; did some filming. FN 09.00 Spoke to Catmando a nearby yacht on VHF Ch 72. Still some five boats in sight. Beautiful warm sunny morning with blue blue sky dotted with the odd small white puffy clouds. FN 11.00 Generator turned off ( 2.5 hrs). Showing 25.6v. Mike did a grand English fry up breakfast of eggs, bacon, beans and toast. Followed by toast and chunky marmalade. Well done Mike. FN 12.00 23.57N 21.31W Noon position taken. FN 14.00 Daily roll call on ARC C4. Position given for relaying to Cowes as back up to e-mail. FN 14.45 Wind changed to enable us to resume course to bearing 251 being the 20.00N 30.00W waypoint which appears from radio traffic to be gaining in popularity as an option. FN 15.40 Further wind backing forced us back towards south to a course of 239 degrees. Clock and batteries checked. Latter indicated down to 22.5v. FN 16.45 E-mailed ARC control with 12.00 hrs position. having been unable to get thru until now FN 18.00 23.39N 22.05W True wind speed, 14kts. SOG 6.33kts Generator started., hot water, battery charger all put on. Watermaker forgotten. Cook Ray started to prepare the evening dinner – prawn cocktail followed by sausage, mash, peas and carrots washed down with red wine finishing off with flambe’d banana, sauce and cream. Received friendly e-mail from Abora to which I replied. Looks like they are ahead of but only just. FN 21.00 23.30N 22.24W ENE True wind speed 14kts, having to still sail the wind 4 degrees off course with COG 254 degrees SOG 6.5kts. Boat been 2 miles to Starboard all day, we think Rock Oyster still there. EMc 21.45 Generator switched off. (3.75 hrs). FN 00.00 23.22N 22.39W Distance done over past twenty four hours 158 nm.
