Tues 7/Wed 8 June Motor N to stylish Elafonisos village, go alongside Dana for brief look ashore, back down and around to beautiful Ormos Frangos on S coast, for two nights 6.5nm (M1.75)

Tues 7th Depart 1100 to look at capital village. Two decent berths already taken alongside just inside harbour. Dana on seaward berth invites us alongside. Bit open here, and feel wake of flatbottomed local ferries rushing in and out from nearby mainland. Lovely ashore, many mms, bakeries and fruit/veg shops, but no ships size gas. Cast off from Dana and anchor just S of breakwater, close in to find sand, for breakfast. Bread turns out to be excellent. Motor S and anchor in 18ft in W of Ormos Frangos. SW outside but swell doesn’t creep in, much. Many swims in crystal clear water. Several boats with kids decide run for Mani as strong winds forecast for tomorrow. More room for us to swing. Big clouds to N. Wind swings 180 for one hour gusting f6 from NE. Anchor resets well. 45m chain out. Then dies to calm. Forecast NNE f4 from midnight, f5 and bit of 6 tomorrow. Plan early leave to Main where less wind about. Noisy wind in rigging as builds to f4/5 overnight, tad more than forecast.

Wed 8th New forecast gives stronger wind across to Mani. Decide stay put as safe here. Get duck on board. Builds to f6 gusting f7. Just four boats in now. Yawing in gusts, but plenty room for us all. Too windy to duck upwind ashore. Many freighters passing just off to S between Elafonisos and Kythera – must be on route from Suez, Turkey, Athens to anywhere W. Eastbound are further off, just N of Kythera. Wind howling in rigging. Read books and sand down and varnish companionway steps. Doesn`t ease till gone 1800 – too late to head for Mani. Peaceful night, tho slight swell creeps in from SE
