42:44.6N 10:14.4E Thursday 9 October Chill out day ashore as f5/6s forecast Forecast gives 5s and 6s blowing up NE coast of Corsica and curling round to W – just where we want to head. But then big doldrums till meet NE off French mainland. Destination is either Italian mainland or just over boarder to Monaco or France. Would like to get as far W as poss. Say 100nm, so at a slow 4knts 25hrs – a long sail for just the two of us. Don`t want to start off in rough conditions and as haven`t had a day off for 10 days decide stay put and wait for Sirocco to ease. Tim dongle no longer working (as we are no longer in Italy!) so using Kindle to get Passage Weather to see what`s going on. Nice day ashore. Explore a couple of miles N up coast. Don`t quite make it to Corsica`s N cape, which is only a few miles further. Clean loo and below – all v damp from moisture in air. Yesterday sun was strong enough to burnt off mist for a few hours around midday – but more wind and moisture today so stays misty all day, but v mild. All fuelled and watered. Diesel tank full, plus 2x18ltrs in jerrycans in locker, and 10ltrs in plastic jerrycan lashed to gangplank on deck. Agree early departure tomorrow. Skip will take first watch as usual, Jane can do some of the daylight hours during the day and skip will take the evening watch till arrive, somewhere. |
