18 June – Happy anniversary Jan and Danuta, lets spend the day at sea
(ending with a frisky sail into wonderful bay)
Depart Sagone 0630
Arrive Campomoro 1500 35nm
No wind at first, then gradually building to f5 WNW
Motor off from anchorage, sail for first half hour in land breeze coming
down valley, then dead flat calm. Coastline getting softer – still backdrop of
jagged mountains, but shore is more rolling green hills covered in maquis (at
Campomoro this comprises gorse, juniper, mastic and other shrubs).Motor off 1030
after taking inner passage thro Iles Sanguinaires, and gets frisky after
rounding Cape Muro. Reach then run, so fast sailing (7+knts). Put in 2 reefs and
roll up most of genny before last gybe and reach into bay off Campomoro. Anchor
in SW corner in 20ft – get a shout from nearby Frenchy as we drop anchor (so
move right a bit)– lots of other yachts arrive. Walk up to Genoese watchtower at
entrance to bay (looking over Golfe du Valinco), and to village to track down
bread. Wonderful sandy beach. Many flies on D`fly. Jane gets tennis practice
with flyswat – see nearby Frenchy doing same, so it’s not just us. Flat calm for
night.
