10 September Couple of trips ashore, then motor all the way to
Fiskardho, rendezvousing with Halcyon on the way, and “squeezing” in on main
quay
Depart Sivota 1045
Arrive Fiskardho 1415 14nm
Sunny and humid, no wind
Morning temp in cabin now down to 22degrees – not seen that
for many many months.Girls do a couple of trips ashore in duck – shopping
(&emails) and gash. Care taking view photos as elderly Brit couple on nearby
yacht naked – no bikini/skimpy lines at all! Dead flat calm. Many yachts
motoring all over the place. Reply to Halcyon on VHF to arrange rendezvous as we
are on same track – Chris heading NNE, D`fly heading SSW. Halycon’s transmission
buzzing. Meet mid ocean 1230. Girls go for swim as we chat. Discover closed
Spilia Taverna at Spartakhori due to undercover visit by Greek revenue officers,
and cash for meal pocketed without issuing receipts. Tut tut! Motor on. Girls
now in emergency tanning mode as only today and tomorrow left.Arrive popular
Fiskardho (remember, it's Cephalonia’s Salcombe) 1415 and already full. Skip
reluctant to go where “No Mooring” signs. One flotilla of small Sailing Holidays
boats already in on quay we had planned. Friendly Brit waves us in to squeeze
between his 44ft and French 48ft. Have to drop kedge late as their anchor chains
converge. Just enough room for our 3.05m beam and squashed fenders.Good spot –
minimarket yards away, and get wifi from adjacent restaurant, tho bat starts
playing up and stops working later.Frenchy to stbd leaves but has to “persuade
"boat of “Slovakian Sailing Team” chaps to reberth as have dropped their chain
diagonally across many yachts. Looks like they have the “gear” but “no idea”.
Entertaining. Another Slovakian crew arrive in slot vacated by Frenchy. They
berth well. No Tshirts just unflattering skimpies. Cat observes the bigger the
boat the fatter the crew! Loads of charter boats keep arriving and have to go
with a shore line over the other side. Note E quay kept free for small ferry
but available for yachts from 1830, and taken by another Sailing Holidays flotilla
dropping kedges. Make note to either arrive v early, or at 1830. Skip loses
sunglasses overboard. They sink. Manage to retrieve with stainless hook and
line. Saves a dive! Walk with Jane to cove further S for swim from rocks. Join
girls for beer o’clock at Panoramus bar with wonderful views out to sea and
Ithaca. Late evening promenade after spag bol and interesting Greek white wine
on board. England draw 0-0 with Ukraine. Girls sleep below for first time –
worried about possible party next door, but none materialises.
