40:45.6N 14:01.8E Thursday 2 October Explore ashore amazing Amalfi, then much motoring N past Capri and Naples and rolly night at anchor in bay on S of Procida Depart Amalfi 1130 Arrive and anchor off Cala di Coricella,Isola di Procida 34nm M6.75 S0.5 First cloudy day for some time, threat of thunder, no wind! Explore ashore. Amazing maze of narrow paths, tunnels, archways clinging to the cliffs winding between ancient homes. Steps everywhere. Stunning surprise as not expected. No chance if infirm. Find small minimarket. Bread still awful. Beer stock getting low and can`t find can six packs. Just individual bottles and rarer cans. Bottled water is available. All feels v expensive here. Computer forecast with Tim dongle still gives light winds, so get going mid morning. HM and assistant help us squeeze out. Italian natives never v friendly, but these two buck the trend. Had hoped to get photos from offshore of spectacular cliffs in sun, but unfortunately have first clouds for many days. Just a bit of S wind squeezing between Capri and mainland – dead run thro gap so goosewing, but dies when thro gap so switch motor on again. Fair W swell as cross Naples bay – so not sure where will find shelter to anchor tonight. Thunder clouds offshore getting closer. Get fully rigged for downpour, but just a few spots. Last minute change of plan as passing Procida, where we stopped on way down last year, and we decide to anchor in bay on SE coast, along with big charted cat and a proper liveaboard Brit. First time used D`fly`s anchor and windlass since June! Pretty buildings ashore, pinks, yellows, oranges, greens, blues – but colours dim as light already fading. Rolly night. |
