18 September Bad forecast but decide to get going and eventually divert to Ligia, with tricky entrance

Depart Levkas 0735

Arrive Ligia 1300 23nm

Sunny, Wf3, then NNWf4 increasing to f5

Look at forecast. Giving 5 & 6 (yellows) right on the nose for the island of Paxoi, over 35nm NNW. We can head in to Preveza or Ligia if don’t make it. Do 0800 bridge. One other yacht comes thro heading for Paxoi too. Wind comfy Wf3 (lighter than forecast)so may be able to make it But, as forecast, comes in NNW and strengthens, with a good swell and waves building. Despite having luffed up no way can do Paxoi Two reefs and roll

genny up a bit and bear away for Ligia. Jules not well after contact lens issues whilst down below. Rain shower so don waterproofs and lifejackets. Jane spots 2 rock bay as a poss, but have borne away and now 5nm dead upwind. Take too long to motor against wind and waves so continue in to Ligia. Big side swell on way in Like last time, lift keel to 4 ft. Calm inside. Get out fenders etc and go bows to. Lots of day left so head for beach to N. Deserted. Big waves pounding in. Don’t get in S Ionian as no chance for long fetch and big waves to build. Friendly elderly natives. Minimarket up on main road now closed for season. Hook up to electricity and water up too – all free. Wonderful sunset between island of Paxoi and Andipaxoi viewed from harbourside bar. Think it remains open all year.
