Monday 1 September Gantry fitted, head south to Spartakhori, on Meganisi, to shelter from imminent storm

Depart Levkas 1200 Arrive Spartakhori 1500 13nm M2 S1

Noisy night on the town quay. Ring gantry man – he will be with us at 1000 (actually arrives early!). Swift fitting, and mended Jan`s anchor brake bit. Excellent service. Girls do shopping, water up, top up dongle and head out as soon as poss. Wind on the nose so keep motoring on exiting canal. Pushing it a bit at just over 2000 revs and get hot water in the bilges again. Time to hoist sails! Beat for last hour with full sails, having to depower main a bit. Good tactics as see off green (boat) Austrians who tacked off and went W. Spartakhori full, even at 1500, so go alongside big cat on NE pontoon. Should be blown off if the forecast S f6 arrives (it never did, well not here. Tales of boats dragging on to pontoons in Nidri overnight just 4 miles to W). But the forecast 36hrs of rain coming from N did arrive overnight. Before that walk in heat to Vathi for ice cream, and back, to find elderly motor yacht Midnight Sun, registered in Guernsey, has gone diagonally stern to just off our bows. All 102ft of her, built by Camper and Nicholson in 1962. Has six Belgiums on board, plus some young kids and looks like 5 crew. Unfortunately their generator bubbled fumes at us all evening, till closed down late, and then the noisy banter of guests on her stern deck till all hours. Not a peaceful night.
