40:38.0N 14:36.0E Wednesday 1 October Early start for long hop N to stunning Amalfi Depart Scario 0415 Arrive Amalfi 1715, don`t get berthed till 1830 61nm M10.5 S2.5 Another sunny day, but not much wind so lots of motoring Skip gets all togged up again. Same departure routine, but a bit earlier. Crosswind but easier leaving in reverse with new Darglow featherstream prop this year. Motor out as church clock strikes the ¼ past. Cabin temp is 19degrees. Have to give wide berth to coast as lit buoys mark marine protection zones. Chartplotter shows “marine farm”. Not a fish farm, in fact nothing seen in darkness!! Sun up just after 0700 to reveal haze over mountains. Heat builds so boots and waterproofs off 0930. Loads of plastic bags/rubbish floating about in sea. Course 329. Early afternoon SW seabreeze – but can only lay 338. Arrive busy Amalfi, but HM instructs us to wait outside as a flotilla of 9 large yachts have prebooked, Could anchor off, but prefer to be bows to pontoon – so don`t have to extract duck stowed in cockpit locker for voyage, and inflate. Many small ferries and tourist boats coming and going. Go alongside fuel pontoon and fill up. Most friendly HM comes on board and helms D`fly in thro really narrow entrance and sharp 90 degrees stbd turn into v tight berth. No room for sternline off transom – lines attached amidships instead. (Trailing astern from transom would foul the extremely narrow fairway for others.) Water and elec, no loos/showers 60euros.Light fades so a few quick photos. Stunning cliffs around harbour with much development. Weary, so just brief explore ashore. Busy with many classy tourists. Decide will do big explore tomorrow before setting off late and only do short hop N. Flotilla load boxes of beer. Noisy night! |
