Skip's big 60
38:37.6N 20:36.4E Wednesday 28 May Skip`s big 60 in Vasiliki Lovely sunny day; little wind. Clouded over late evening No morning wind, so glad we sailed across yesterday with a fresh breeze. Rach pops in for early cuppa on way to work. Boiled eggs. Set off on 50min walk along E side of bay to lovely beach. Pass moving shrine in stunning location. Hope not offended by intrusion to show you. Many primrose yellow and orange butterflies on way, often in pairs. And spiders casting webs up high across wide track. Can`t figure out how they get first strand across, must be wind assisted. Hour on beach. One way back meet mountain bikers – one lady traumatised and in tears doing “spider alley”. (We have a couple of pet spiders on D`fly – they were on board after winter lay up and despite fierce winds continue to spin webs – one high up in gantry, near bat/lowrance arial, tother between guard wires on port side. Seem to live off trapped mozzies. )Lazy afternoon on beach at Rachel`s workplace, the Neilson hotel, watching all the windsurfers of various abilities, and all sorts having a ride around the bay on a Dart. Brings back memories of Tornado years, and trying proto type Dart form Panther Craft. Spruce up at Rachel`s apartment. Back on board get some blogs away. Dress for dinner, emerge on deck to find balloons and big 60 Today sign, and brill homemade chocky brownie cake. Doesn`t really go with Bass/ Prosecco so get out favourite crisps. Open BD cards/pressys. Lovely comments from so many, and txts been arriving all day too. Skype J&J n phone Ma to catch up on news form home. Savour last two Bass, and head for nearby Miramare Taverna. Oh no, more signs and balloons! Great calamari starter, souvlaki, chips, rice, green beans and salad. Bliss. And back to D`fly for cuppa and brownie. What a wonderful special day. Thanks Jane, Rachel and all back home. |
