Monday 29 September Long day heading N in fine weather along pretty
mountainous coast to be welcomed by jolly HM

Depart Tropea  0530 Arrive Cetraro 1715  52nm M6.5  S5.25

Cloudless day; crystal clear views – variable wind.

Skip gets all togged up (fleece, wp jacket & leggings, lifejacket, harness,
socks and boots) for early departure in dark. Want to get to next and
unfamiliar port before darkness sets in about 1900. Dead flat sea as E wind
blowing off land. Immediate sails hoist – Jane then heads back to snuggle
down in forecabin. Full sails, broad reach – gets tighter heading 358degrees
making 5+ knts. Colours appear 0600, sun up 0700 over distant mountains.
First lull 0700 too, motor switched on. Fresh air temp so decide to roll up
bimini – need the warmth from direct sun. 1045 dead calm, 1345 fills in WNW
f2 then f3. Sheets eased a tad making 4knts on port. Wonderful alpine like
landscape ashore – green fields giving way to forested mountains. Cabin gets
up to 30 in clear sun. Unusually no clouds forming over mountains to E so
magnificent views inland for miles. Wind dies 1515 so motor last couple of
hours to be welcomed by helpful non English speaking jolly HM. Laid lines.25
euros. Only a couple of other arrivals. Walk a couple of miles S to Lidl.
Harbour bar closed on return. Eat below as now cool evenings when sun down
