Thurs 12 June More motoring, to arrive early at popular “twee” Kioni, Ithaka

Depart OHB 1215

Arrive Kioni 1415 9nm S0.25 M1.75

Some high clouds, no wind

Peaceful morning. More swims. Others begin to arrive for lunch stop. We move on. Haven`t stopped at Kioni,on E coast of Ithaka, before. Need to get in early to avoid anchoring with long lines ashore. Nice breeze as pass S coast of Atoko. Set all sails. SW f2/3 so nice fetch, but only lasts for 15 mins! Motor rest of way. Fortunately just a short hop W. Just one space left. Had been eyed up by others, but decided too narrow for them. OK for D`fly`s 3.05m (10ft) beam. Neighbours relieved when we squeeze in with inches to spare, But for first time kedge fails to dig in. Odd, as laid loads of line, but able to heave it all in. No wind and safely alongside longer boats, so plenty of time to borrow offered duck (save blowing ours up) to paddle chain and anchor back out to redrop. Holds this time. Hot ashore as no wind. Fumes from neighbour charging batteries, but he did ask. Couldn’t really say no! Afternoon walk around S of inlet to stony beach with small tavern and goats, but doesn`t sell much needed ice creams. Very pretty village. Amphitheatre of houses around steep sides of bay, usual big church, olive groves and few tall cypress on hills behind. Tourist boats arrive and passengers waddle ashore for an hour. Twee place, but doesn`t feel Greek. Many Sunsail bareboats, esp cats, and others arrive having to anchor in quite deep water and put long sternlines ashore by duck or swimmer on SW quays/rocks as mainquay full. Told flotillas in here last night. 80 plus boats squeezed in all over the place.
