Friday 6 June Move to Yacht Bar pontoon and go for sail on SO35 Vigdis

Another all day scorcher, but surprisingly cool WNW wind at sea

Move D`fly to Yacht Bar pontoon with laid lines so will be safe while we are out for the day. If left unattended with one anchor bows to quay danger from others hooking ours and end up blown onto quay. Calamity boarding Vigdis. Gangplank snaps under skips (much reduced) weight, but dunking averted as one hand for the boat on pushpit. Head out on Vigdis. Not much wind, but with big sails speeds along. Usual WNW develops and stick in a reef. No gooseneck hooks – just very long lines that pull tack and clew down together via blocks sewn on main. Neat, no need to go to mast. Cracking sail, but can`t easily see windex from steering position (sun shade bimini in way), and can`t hike out with tiller extension (wheels don’t have that option), so have to use instruments! Completely different motion when stern to seas. Try engine flat out. Overheats. Not uncommon for Yanmar 3YM30s. This model has the bigger heat exchange unit, so probably just needs a good clean out. Lovely lovely boat. Much thinking to do over weekend.
