6 June - Short hop to tie up on canal bank, bike for first sight of Med,
and recky the boatyard for tomorrow
Depart VlB 0915
Arrive Vias 1050, 4 miles , 1 lock
Hot, hot & sun sun
Relaxed start. Saw marsh area with loads of flamingos. Must be getting
close to Med. Nice halte de Vias, just down from the town and close to beaches.
Big Alton Towers type amusement park just next to halte, fortunately not opening
till 21 June. The advertised free water and electricity is there, but all turned
off having been abused by a load of boaters a few years ago, or so we are told.
(Fortunately they were not Brits.) 5 min bike ride to THE MED. Made it. Lovely
beach. Back to boat, Jane gets her towel out and heads back to beach, skip heads
into Agde to recky the route and yard for stepping the mast. Frustrating late
afternoon at Office de Tourism – the wifi is free, but v poor connectivity so
webmail keeps crashing, and have to start mailasail emails all over again, many
times. Evening cycle into Vias, stock up a bit ready for sea voyage, and Jan’s
arrival tomorrow. Beer on deck in sun. This is the life. Bout time
