4 May Let’s wait for the tide, and we’ll be there in a few hours, or so skip thought!

 

Depart Roscoff 1530

Arrive L`Aberwrach 2400 41 miles (distance tables give 32 miles!)

Wf5, easing to nothing. Big swell.

 

Jane cadged a lift to the supermarket to replenish supplies (and what a good move that turned out to be). Skip and Rosemary did more boat chores – the to do list is getting a  tiny bit shorter

 

Yet more boat chores, then left to get the first of the W tide. Didn’t fancy trying the channel inside Ile de Batz even though it was high water. Too much wind and swell at the other end. The crew thought I was a wimp – but skip knows best. Motorsailed with just the main (2 reefs) expecting a strong lee bow, but it never materialised (neaps – and perhaps an inshore back eddy?). Tacked over and rolled out some genny, but having to sail fee over the large short seas. Snail trail on the chart plotter not showing much headway W. Thought about turning back but decided to “wait and see”. Ginger biscuits kept us going. Wind gradually died, seas moderated, released more genny and made some progress  - ended up motoring dead into the “wind” which completely fell away with much kinder seas. Know the tricky entrance to L`wrach quite well so happy to enter on the lead lights and chart plotter as excellent visibility. Tied up in the marina midnight; fired up a chilli that Jane had “prepared earlier” (in Roscoff thank goodness) and raided the Bass supplies. Bed 1.00am – decided to move to French time, so 2.00am. Jane is convinced she could have walked the coastal path quicker – she’s probably right!
