Thursday 11 & Friday 12 September Short motor to Kalamos, storm in Port Leone, Frikes via One House bay

Thursday 11 Depart Kastos 1000 Arrive Port Leone 1400 6nm M1.5 Motored to Kalamos for Jane and John to go shopping. George says it`ll rain by 1300. Sf4 forecast overnight, so head for Port Leone, inlet towards SW end of Kalamos Get in close to beach. LSC wags reunion on foredeck. Reanchor just off beach when Belgiums head off for town, so well sheltered from S wind. Rain arrives three hours late. Thunder clouds descend from N. Heavy rain accompanied by f7 gusts FROM N. Swing 180 on anchor. Rather close to beach so lift anchor in pouring rain and relay further out with all 45m chain. Holds well. Anxious hour watching others release shore lines and depart lee shore. Big boat arrives and seems to anchor over two Sunsail boats who decided to stay put. Astra stays too. Wind dies quickly 2100 to dead calm. Much relief. All’s well. Late beer oclock and supper.

Friday 12 September Depart Port Leone 0830 Arrive Frikes, via One House bay (Atoko)1630 18nm M1.75 S3 Breakfast underway, to get earlyish start. See sinking yacht on rocks at Sarakinko, inlet on N coast of Kastos. Other yachts nearby and rib visits too, so looks as tho further assistance not required. Must have been caught out when f7 gusts came thro from N yesterday evening. Now unexpected SSE f2/3 so sail all way to OHB. Lula is first boat to arrive, moments before big Swiss yacht. Loads of room, but he seems surprised and gesticulates as we reverse to lay anchor and chain. Lula`s intentions pretty obvious even to our trainee crew. Astra arrives too. Swims and cuppas. Press on to Ithaka. Wind bit more S now so good reach on port. Motor last 4 nm to drop Jane and John GC off in Kioni, to walk (1.5hrs) to Frikes. We go alongside Astra, Frikes. Port much quieter. Ferries every 3 days now, not daily. Disappointed to find Penelope Restaurant now closed, so try neighbouring taverna. Not quite so good.
