27 June Early start heading even further south for marina stop on small
unspoilt island just before Naples
Depart Ponsa 0615
Arrive Procida marina 1630 52nm
Sun, no wind, then for last couple of hours NW f4 and a bit of 5 in
straights
Motored along for most of the day.Isola di Ischia looked nice as we passed
by. Headed N a bit to keep out of restricted area with note on chart “The nature
of the restriction is unknown.Mariners are advised to seek advice from the local
authorities before entering this area.” Jan has couple of extra hours powernap
late afternoon as didn’t get his 8 last night (due to Ponsa arrival
celebrations!). Dropping main is fun as 3 big ferries stemming wind waiting to
come in, and what feels like wind against tide seas bouncing us about. We have
separate entrance further S. Get allocated bows to berth on town quay. Busy
front area – faded, patchy lived in island town (tis v small fairly flat island
about 1 mile by 2 miles just off the headland that leads to Golfo di Napoli
(Bay of Naples))(compared with some of the mountainous monsters we have been
watching since arriving this side) Pastel buildings (most with paint peeling
off), pretty flowering oliander trees along front, pleasant old fashion shops in
road level cellars, dark basalt paving stones everywhere, narrow winding streets
– sort of medieval feel to the place and certainly not tarted up Stunning
interior to church on quay, but clock chiming every 1/4 – will it go all night? (Yes, think it did!)
Girl serving beers has not been taught any English – relieved when three picollo
beers arrive safely. Decide when in Rome (or near Naples) it has to be Pizza on
the boat. Two for 11 euros and v tasty. See grey shape of Mte Vesuvio in
distance behind Napoli..We loved the place, but most expensive yet at 56euros
tho with good “free” showers. (But as didn’t have any overnight fees at Ponsa or
night before when at sea, doable.) Will have to anchor tomorrow to balance the
books.
