38:41.00N 15:54.30E Sunday 28 September Jamie catches train to fly home from Lamenzia, lazy day off for skip and Jane See Jamie off on 0903. Three tracks at station. Can tell which platform to use as two lines have bushes between rails! Dark Africans board train too, with worldly belongings or perhaps goods for sale in large cardboard boxes strapped to trolleys. Indians disembark, with wooden trays of rings and trinkets to sell to Tropea tourists. We explore town. Descend to beaches and climb up to stunning church Santa Maria dell Isola, perched on rocky outcrop by sea. Can see artificial reef built just below sea level to slow down erosion of sandstone rock as storms will bring huge rollers with massive fetch to NW. Couple having wedding photos. No guests about – som must be either before. Photographer has mini helicopter for arial shots. How twee. Jane heads for beach. Skip does boaty things. First lazy day since half term due to enjoyable string of guests. Most relaxing. Fill water tanks. Get 28ltrs diesel(in jerrycans) for 49euros. Italy is much more expensive than Greece – food as well. Not as friendly as Greeks either. Not a breath of wind today, or a cloud. Still crystal clear air. 30 degrees in cabin, but only just warm enough to eat in cockpit after dusk. Interestingly no mozzis or wasps. Follow Ryder cup final day. Brilliant, wopped the yanks again, and learn Chiefs hammered Harlequins. Brill day. Plan hops to S France. Will have some long days ahead. Most content. |
