3 May – a not so early start to make some westerlies
Depart St Peter Port 0445
Arrive Roscoff marina 1830 75 miles
Dark and v cold, then sunny NWf4, dropping and backing
Bugger – the alarm didn’t go, so only left at 0445. Decided not to reef –
good shout as the wind eased later. Headed due west as forecast gave a backing
wind, and so it did about noon and we could bear away and make Roscoff on
starboard, with some motor at the end to keep the speed up. Big spanking new
marina, with lifts and pontoons for disabled, but just beyond the Britanny
Ferries terminal so care needed in the approaches. Capitainerie and showers
temporarily in portacabins as much building work in progress. Walked towards
Roscoff town for well earned beer – Roscoff Bitter no less – slightly cloudy but
excellent taste.
