11 September motor S, anchor in Ormos (means bay, Nisos means
Island) Sikidi for swim, wind gets up so lively sail gybing dead downwind to
pretty village of Sami
Depart Fiskardho 1100
Arrive Sami 1505 17nm
Gentle NE from 1200, NNE f4 from 1300 in strait between
Cephalonia and Ithaca, easing to f3 where strait widens, and nothing for last
mile into Sami
Lift kedge easily – both neighbours have already left. Much
activity in harbour as many leaving now. Motor down pretty E coast of
Cephalonia. Wooded slopes rising from sea(pine and cypress) and ravines, gullies
and coves. Genoa out for 20 mins as wind fills in.Stop in cove, Ormos Sikidi,
about 5nm S of Fiskardho, for swim 1220. Get going again with both sails 1300. Bad news for foredeck sunbathing as sails cast shadow everywhere.
Rach on helm speeding down wind up to 7knts. Several intentional gybes. See off
brand new Bavaria 36 and a 39. Arrive Sami and berth bows to. Jane steers in as
skip deploys kedge. Help from ashore with bowlines. Good manoeuvre without
nudging either neighbour. Three girls ashore to excellent swimpool, beyond the
public shower to W of harbour. Cat and Rach desperately trying to tan white bits
– just under chin. Skip reloads bat software and it seems to be working again.
Dress for dinner. Girls pack bags and finish dregs of gin and tonic – so more
room in fridge now. Good meal ashore at Dolphin (or was it Mermaid? – just know
we have now been to both. Most friendly staff and good grub so will return to
either.) Cool evening. Jane wears cardigan. (But still only gets down to 22 degrees in cabin by dawn. How's it back home?!)
