We left Thursday Island on Wednesday morning and have been making good progress west. Just before dark last night we met our first obstacle. The fishing boats down here lay long lines or nets, about 5 miles long, supported about every mile with AIS marked buoys (automatic identification system). We can see these on our plotter screen so can take avoiding action but do you go round north or south? The boats do not answer radio calls so it’s pot luck. Last night we deviated south for about seven miles!
