We spent 3 nights at Smokehouse Bay, but the forecast was for some windy weather to come in from the North East and our anchorage was exposed to the north, so we were looking for the most sheltered bay to hide in.  Then they changed the forecast, with an intense depression crossing the North Island, and gusts expected of up to 60 knots (force 9 on the Beaufort Scale).  So we decided to retire to safety before it arrived, and crossed back to the mainland yesterday.  We are now berthed in Marsden Cove Marina, listening to the wind (which has only reached 30 knots so far) and sheltering from the rain.
