Cartagena de Indias in Pictures
Cartagena is an amazingly photogenic town, from the skyscrapers of Bocagrande, the middle class and hotel beach area, to the old walled city. Here are some photos form our brief visit to give a taste of it: The skyscrappers seen from the sea and the view from the anchorage. The boat in the foreground is ‘Grandjacques’ whose Colombian crew help us recover our anchor. Getsemeni is an area with narrow streets, old colourful buildings and bougainvillea everywhere. It seemed to be an area where Cartagenans lived and worked, but also has a lot of backpacker hostels and bars: The old walled town had taller buildings and open plazas, but the same ornate balconies and window screens. It was more touristy, with shops and some lovely looking boutique hotels: I would love to have known the story behind the metal sculptures seen in all parts of the city: After a hard day’s walking a beer is essential: Sunset over the yachtclub bar |
