The wind gods continue to play their tricks and having woken to 15kt south
easterlies a number of boats decided to make the most of the winds and leave
before the official start time. The rally is a major event in Darwin and
many people come out to see the start or view from the shore, so Trish and I
decided to wait for the 11.00am start time and leave with the majority of
the boats. By 11.00am the winds had died to a gentle breeze and 100 boats
trickled over the start line en route for Kupang on West Timor. Even so the
boats with all sail set provided a great spectacle and with our big cruising
chute pulling well we quickly moved to the head of the pack. We are now on
our rhumb line to the pass between the island of Pulau Roti and Timor,
sailing wing on wing in 15kts but very rolly seas. Oh for a nice beam reach!
