We took the opportunity to hire a car for a few days in Lorient and explored the surrounding area as far as Vannes and Concarneau.

We stumbled across the small town of Josselin along the way and discovered a beautiful medieval town and large chateau.

Our journey south took us to Pornichet and Port Joinville on ille D’Yeau where we spent a few days. We were privileged to share the pontoon

with a piece of sailing history as Bernard Moitessier’s “Joshua” tied up behind us. It is worth pondering how sailing history would have been

changed had Moitessier carried on in the race to become the first man to sail single handed and non stop around the world instead of

Robin Knox Johnson!

We spent a couple of days in Les Sables D’Olonne and were given a berth on the Vendee Globe Pontoon. The town is gearing up for this years race and there

are large displays of the 16 confirmed entries. We have now moved on to La Rochelle and are in the basin des Chalutiers in the centre of the town. A great place with lots happening so will stay a few days before making the trip across southern Biscay to NW Spain
