It is for good reason that the islands to the south are called the
Windwards.
We have been bashing into the wind ever since leaving the Virgin Islands.
North Easterlies would have been good but despite the forecasts we have had
pretty constant South Easterlies and each passage has been hard on the wind
with winds in the 20 to 25knot range although we did have gusts up to 38
knots when leaving Dominica.
Hopefully once we get to St Lucia we should be heading due south with a
better wind angle to make the trip more comfortable.
We were able to head into the large bay on Martinique that shelters the
capital, Fort de France, a town that could just as easily be located
anywhere on mainland France. There is a great anchorage there that nestles
beneath Fort St Louis, with easy access to the nearby dinghy dock. From here
the main shopping area is a short walk away and both Trish and Katie were
able to get in some retail therapy after so long away from the shops!!!
