St Kat's to Falmouth
“50: 09.2N” “005:04W” The trip down the Thames from central London was pretty special with some great views as we left on Thursday afternoon.
The weather was good and we decided to push on overnight to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight arriving around 5pm after covering 206NM in 26 hours. Everybody has settled in on the boat and are beginning to get to grips with the sail handling and navigation systems. A 5.00am start from Yarmouth enabled us to catch the tide around the Needles and we were able to get the sails up for part of the way and cut the engine for some quiet time. We arrived in Dartmouth at 6.00pm and rafted up on the town quay before going ashore to sample Dartmouth’s obvious charms.
A late morning start to catch the best of the tides gave us an opportunity to fly the big purple and black cruising chute before the wind died and the engine was switched on. The weather has been fantastic and everyone is developing a nice tan. Curious has behaved impeccably in every respect and sails like a dream in these light airs and should be even better in stronger wind conditions. Tricia broke Duncan’s speed record with 10.4 knots in 13knots of true wind. Fantastic!!!!!!! We are now in Falmouth where Duncan has left us to return to his day job with Oyster and the rest of the team will continue on to Camaret in North West Brittany.
