The early navigators must have had a hard time working their way through the
off lying chain of reefs and sandbanks that protect the inner chain of
islands over the 100nm of coastline and island chains that make up the San
Blas archipelago.
We have moved another 20 miles north to an anchorage on an offshore island
called Aridup, a picture postcard vision of a palm tree lined Caribbean
island.
The anchorage is a little rolly but protected from the worst of the swells
by the extensive reefs that surround this small group of islands. As we
arrived a small dugout canoe with three Kuna men paddled across and offered
us octopus and large crab but not knowing how best to cook Octopus or crab
we gave them a cold can of coke each and asked if they would have any fish
or Lobster the following morning. We will have to wait until tomorrow to see
if they return.
