Going North

Probably for the first time since we left St Katherine's Dock in London back
in early May, Curious has sailed north into the prevailing wind and sea.
Katie and Yann joined us in St Lucia and with strong winds forecast for the
Xmas period we had no option but to head north quickly in order to be in
Antigua in time for the arrival of Chris and Bethan on the 27th.
The journey up was a real mixture of great sailing in excellent conditions
and also extremely rough seas, strong winds and night time squalls adding to
the excitement. Although Katie had not sailed with us for some time and
never on board Curious, this was Yann's first time sailing and the journey
gave him a flavour of the best and sometimes worst of passage making. The
final leg from the north west tip of Guadeloupe across the 45 Nm channel to
Falmouth Harbour on Antigua gave us 25 to 35 knot headwinds and 3 to 4 metre
seas.
Saying goodbye to Glen and Heather on the dock in Rodney Bay and leaving new
found friends from within the ARC fleet brought to an end this chapter in
our sailing year. Xmas and New Year with the family will herald in a new
year and hopefully more adventures in 2009.
To everyone that reads this blog, I hope that you have enjoyed sharing our
trip and will continue to join us in 2009.
Best wishes for a great Xmas and a more settled and prosperous New Year.
