The last 24 hours have been far more rewarding, with stronger winds and a
course change onto the great circle route to St Lucia.
Winds have been pretty steady in the 12 to 20 knot range but mostly 12 to 15
knots from the NE or ENE. This has enabled us to greatly increase our
average speed and we have covered 193 miles over the ground and around 175
miles closer to our destination in the last 24 hours. WE will be waiting
impatiently to see how we fare compared to the rest of the fleet and in
particular to the other Oyster 56's.
The boat's motion is now far less comfortable but still not too bad,
although moving around on deck or below requires care and concentration.
The old adage of one hand for you and one hand for the boat is very relevant
in these downwind conditions. The seas are quite big and some waves bigger
than others. The boat copes beautifully although it does make the sails flog
more than we would like.
All aboard are well, we continue to eat and sleep well and when I woke this
morning ready for my next wash the boat looks like a Chinese laundry as
Glenn and Chris have washed their smalls!!
We caught more fish again last night but once more threw them back as being
too small to end up on our plates. It Was Adrian's turn to cook supper last
night and he served up a tasty Chilli with noodles instead of rice by way of
a change. Glenn's turn tonight and is likely to be more vegetarian than red
meat! He also has the large piece of tuna that was given to us by friends in
Las Palmas and we are hoping for Sashimi and a nice large tuna steak for
supper.
No film yesterday as crew took the opportunity to sleep before the night
watches.
Not much to choose from yesterdays music as Adrian insisted he play endless
reggae music to get us into the Caribbean spirit.
