We took a trip over in the dinghy with the Rick,
Delphine & Jon from Free Style
and met Brian and his crew from
"Further".
We went from Cooks Bay to Opunohu Bay on Moorea and
through a narrow passage
inside the reef to Point Tehau where
Tahitian Sting Rays gather to be fed
by the local hotel tour guides. Over the years
these rays have become quite tame and
although we may question the rights and wrongs of
feeding wild creatures it does make
for a unique experience.
There can be over a dozen of these creatures and
they glide along the bottom
and swim right up to people looking for
tidbits.
The top of the rays are grey in colour and slightly
rough and the undersides white and smooth
These rays are harmless and although they are known
as stingrays and have a tail
with two barbs do not seem in any way a threat to
humans.
