Yesterday was spent rolling around in very light winds, cursing the wind
gods.
By early evening we were resigned to running the engine again overnight.
A few hours earlier we had screwed up the paper with the various predictions
of passage times and arrival dates as they were now meaningless.
Just as we were about to go onto engine the wind kicked back in and built
throughout the early evening and into the night. We now have the E NE trade
winds that this passage is famous for. With winds between 20 and 30 knots we
are bowling along at 8 to 9 knots with the wind dead astern and the boat
rolling slightly in the big seas and surfing down the waves. THIS IS WHAT WE
HAD COME FOR!!!
Earlier we had been running under headsail alone and across the breaking
waves. Very rolly and very uncomfortable.
I had been asleep off watch in the rear cabin where we had stowed cushions
and fenders when a particularly big roll buried me under the lot!
We should have some good video footage of the big following seas.
There is a bit of a buzz onboard now we have the conditions we came for and
there are other boats around us that we speak to on the VHF from time to
time.
All are fit and well, we continue to rustle up some decent meals but I doubt
that Glen's desire to lose weight on this trip will not come to fruition!
Our hopes now are for these conditions all the way into St Lucia....fingers
crossed.

There was no sitting back looking at the moon and stars last night.
Fantastic when you feel a thirty ton boat being lifted and then thrown
surfing down the waves I can only say it's better than any fairground ride!
I guess you're wondering how my lasagne went the other night? OK Trish's
lasagne but my little finishing touch of red cabbage and dates with raisins
went down a storm. I moved on to tantalise the taste buds of our Canadian
friend yesterday morning. Lightly toasted bread about three minutes,
buttered Glen wouldn't go for the grilled cheese on top but then the piece
de resistance Hienz backed beans done for three minutes in the microwave
followed by a spoonful of Branstone pickle on the side. Yes I know I spoil
them! My cooking is improving by the day.
