We had sailed north to a sheltered anchorage
between three islands where there were a number of small resorts
After making our presentation of Yaqona to Vau, the
lady chief on Nanuya-Levu we explored the waters and beaches
around the anchorage for a few days. We were told
that there was a farmer from whom we could buy some fresh fruit
and vegetables so we dinghied across to
Metacawa-Levu to see Taki, his wife Mary, 2 year old son Joe and 7 month old
daughter Millie.
Joe...
Taki farms a few acres and sells most of his
produce to the local resorts and by local standards his well off.
We bought fresh from the fields, tomatos, spring
onions, green peppers, chillis, cucumber, green beans, green
papaya,
bok choy, bananas, mangoes, aubergines and squash.
he also kept a few pigs, chickens and cows.

farm.
