Everywhere on San Cristobel there is incredible wildlife to be found and a trip around the southern end of the island took us to the Tortoise breeding centre

and also to one of many beaches where Marine Iguanas are to be found in numbers. Not the prettiest of creatures with a face only a mother could love, these

reptiles have evolved to become the only Iguana found anywhere in the world that can  swim and feed on the sea bottom.

Throughout her time on board Curious, Heather has taken some amazing photographs and will spend as much time as necessary to get the best shot.

She had to get very friendly with some of these Iguanas to capture these images.

Once they have fed in the sea, being cold blooded creatures they must return to land to reheat their bodies in the hot sun. As a defence against the Galapagos Hawk,

their main predator, they have changed from their original green colour to a camouflaged pattern that closely resembles their volcanic rock surroundings.
