After one dive and one snorkelling trip on the sheltered west coast we were
disappointed by the condition of the coral and the lack of sea life in
Beveridge Reef so decided to cut short our stay there and make the most of
our time in Niue. Some friends stayed to check out the east coast and
discovered a number of wrecks, healthy coral and a lot more fish and sharks.
C'est la Vie!
We did see another Humpack Whale as we left the passage and headed for Niue
where whales are a common feature at this time of year and it is usual to
see mothers and their calves within the anchorage.
We are now moored off the village of Alofi having made the 135nm passage
overnight and having checked in with Customs and Immigration went off for a
late breakfast / early lunch and was delighted to find English breakfasts
being served, complete with double eggs, lots of bacon, pork sausages, baked
beans and toast washed down with a pretty good Capuccino.. The first for a
year!
Niue has a lot to offer so we have planned to fit in as much as
possible....more later!
