Day 8

The last 24 hours has been pretty steady in light (10/15kts) winds we have
moved directly along the rhumb line to St Lucia.
However, the latest grib files show very light winds across all areas but
with an area of zero winds directly across our path. Consequently we have
once more changed course to the SW to try and avoid this windless zone. We
are now making good progress with both the mainsail and the cruising chute
set at around 7.5 kts down towards the 15th parallel where we will once
again turn west directly for St Lucia.
Life aboard is pretty comfortable (if you ignore the rolling seas) and we
continue to eat and sleep well.
Adrian and Glen are getting feds up catching Dorado and have put bigger
lures on their lines in the hope of catching a big tuna.
Chris has taken on the mantle of recycling guru and has incorporated this
chore into the story of the un-named duck (a school project).
The boat is performing superbly but we do have to watch for chafe on sails
and rigging as the rolling takes its toll.
The big purple cruising chute has proved to be a godsend and we have flown
it night and day for the last 4 days.
The days seem to roll by pretty quickly and we have settled nicely into the
routine, with supper the highlight of the day. It was my turn to cook last
night and I used John Veniers recipe for fish pie. It seemed to go down
well!
No films again yesterday as crew decide to catch up on sleep before the
night watches.
Pick of yesterdays music..... The Comittments.
A note from Adrian
When we started this journey Steve would shout orders and as crew we would
respond by going in entirely different directions! Now when Steve shouts
orders we all proceed in the same direction but not necessarily the
direction Steve asks! So it's coming together. I appear to have taken on the
role of looking after the pole when we pole out the Shute. This involves
grabbing hold of the pole dancing around it for five minutes pulling sheets
(they look like ropes to me) then we pole out the foresail. Yesterday I was
enjoying a nice shower, to conserve water you wet yourself all over then
soap up then rinse again with the shower. Well I had just covered myself in
soap and the boat caught a wave broached slightly and yes you guessed it I
was dancing on the ceiling! Now I know how Lionel Ritchie felt!
Cooking; the guy's are far better cooks than I will ever be. Glen prepared
sushi, Chris made homemade oriental chicken and Steve's fish pie is
something else. I made a chilli! Today I am going to do a lasagne with
vegetables (thanks' for the frozen lasagne Trish) I await their further
gastronomic delights so any help would be appreciated.
Moral on board is very good we have all found our niche area and work
together as a team, now all we need is decent winds to push us towards St
Lucia.
I wouldn't have missed this for the world what an experience.
