In flat seas and light winds we have motor sailed another 50nm north along the east coast of Australia.
To give you some idea of just how big this country is our journey will take us along the northern half of the east coast and across a third of the north coast, a trip of over 2,000nm.
If we were to do a circumnavigation of Australia we would cover over 10,000nm the equivalent of 3 Atlantic crossings.
The Great Barrier Reef is almost 100nm due east of us with a wide channel between. The coastline is dotted with 100's of tiny islands and reefs, many with good overnight anchorages.
Once we passed the tip of Cape that bears its name we crossed the Tropic of Capicorn and the change in the weather and sea temperature is noticeable.
