The last 24 hours have seen a wide range of wind conditions and have kept us
on our toes trying to find the best sail configuration to suit the
conditions. WE spent around 6 hours wallowing around in very light winds and
decided to pole out the cruising chute to try to get some boat speed. This
is a little unorthodox but worked well and as the winds built up worked even
better. So much so that we are still sailing with this sail set up and have
seen winds build to 15 to 20kts and boat speed from 7 to 10kts. We are still
headed south of our optimal route but should be moving into more consistent
winds enabling us to turn west and head directly for St Lucia. We have
already covered 1,100Nm over the ground and still have around 1,900 to go.
The weather has warmed considerably and the sea temperature is now a warm 30
degrees and all crew are developing good sun tans. The seas have built and
the rollers are impressive.
There are literally thousands of flying fish and they turn up on deck each
morning and have to be thrown over the side before the mess up our nice teak
decks.
Adrian hooked a very big fish but it chomped through his lure and
disappeared.
Chris cooked up a Chinese chicken dish last night courtesy of Delia Smith
and served it with cous cous with chopped apricots and pine nuts, followed
by peaches with vanilla yoghurt and chopped dates. Excellent!
No film of the day as crew opted to catch up on sleep before the night
watches.
