There has been much in the news lately about the logging of Borneo's forests and its

impact on both wildlife and human inhabitants. During our journey across from Bali

and our trip upriver we saw for ourselves the scale of this logging with tugs towing

huge barges loaded with hardwood from the rainforest.

Much of this logging is government approved and the hardwood trees are being replaced with

palm oil trees ostensibly to create cleaner biofuels but in reality are having a worst overall

effect on our envirnoment and a disastrous effect on the soil quality and eliminating much

of the wildlife that lives in these ancient forests

We saw many hand made signs along the inland rivers complaining about both legal and illegal

logging even though this does creat local emplyment
