The first 10 days has seen us cover 2/3rds of the distance at an average
speed of 195.4nm per day or just over 8 knots of boat speed, a really good
average. The wind and swells are now firmly established from the east and
wind speed has dropped reducing our boat speed slightly although we continue
to make good time. The next hour should see us drop below 1,000nm to run and
we have also crossed another time zone and are now 8 hours behind UTC (GMT).
We have had our first AIS contact for many days with a large cargo ship (the
Matisse) heading for Papeete.
Still no luck fishing so I had to raid the freezer last night for dinner.
All are well on board and have been calling and e mailing friends and family
to reassure them that we are all OK and was in no way threatened by the
after effects of the huge earthquake in Chile, We have no way of knowing
what the after effects are in Chile and elsewhere around the world and can
only hope that there is no loss of life and damage to property.
