We have now arrived safely in Suva after a 50 hour passage from Neiafu,
Vava’u Group, Tonga.
Unfortunately our decision to stay as long as possible in Neiafu caused us
to miss the best of the sailing conditions (wind) and apart from 6 to 8m
hours sailing we were forced to motor sail for most of the way in flat
calm seas. The upside was that we had two fantastic starry nights with the
sea so calm on the 2nd night that we could see the reflections of the
stars dancing on the oily black sea.
During the passage on the 2nd night we sailed across the international
dateline and are now in the eastern hemisphere and technically half way
around the world after 2 years and 4 months and 16,750 nm.
We are now awaiting the customs and immigration for clearance so that we
can continue on overnight to Vuda Point Marina in Nadi where Curious will
stay during September when we return to the UK for the birth of our 1st
grandchild.
After many months of relatively small, out of the way places, Suva with
its large harbour and high rise buildings came as something of a shock.
With no time to explore the city now we will return here in October before
we leave for NZ.
